Institutional long holdings outweigh short holdings 31-1. Total reported long holdings are $65.1 trillion (49.5 trillion of passive holdings versus $15.6 trillion of active holdings) and $2.1 trillion of short holdings.

Daily price moves are determined by imbalances of buying or selling pressure in a particular stock. Active investors on the long and short side trade regularly, getting into new stocks, closing existing stock positions or managing their stock exposure by buying or selling shares.

Using S3’s MAP and Disclosure products on the long side and the S3 Black App on the short side we can see which stocks are skewed long, skewed short or a long-short battleground stock.

The Market Is Long—But Daily Moves Belong to Active Traders. S3 Data Identifies Long, Short, and Battleground Stocks.
